Hey! My Name is Bragye and here is my portfolio for ENGL 110, thank you for reading.

I worked on three major assignments this semester: Source-Based Essay, Inquiry-Based Essay, and Composition in Two Genres. With these assignments, I demonstrated how the course outcomes stated on the syllabus were reflected in my work.

Course outcomes in my work:

• Explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations.

In my source-based essay, I discussed Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is a very unique topic to write about because there aren’t many other written works on avatar that have been reviewed. In this essay, I worked to identify which topics I could pull out, although being a cartoon. I knew there were many interesting topics covered, I wasn’t sure if I could find evidence in other authors to back up my claim. Once I’d decided on the main genres I wanted to cover, I dug deeper into why they were each important parts of the story and how the authors used different rhetorical situations depending on whether the topic was controversial or relatable.

• Develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing.

I struggled with deciding how to begin my inquiry-based essay because it was a fairly broad topic with many different sections I could have covered. After doing some research on modesty, the best move I made to figure out what I was going to do with my paper was to create an outline with the main topics I wanted to discuss. I had decided on modesty in the workplace, school, and books. I was pleased with these topics they were all very different, but demonstrating that they all had modesty issues was my goal. When I started writing after I was satisfied with my outline, I felt much more at ease because I felt as if I was simply putting my evidence from research and my thoughts onto the paper in a fluid manner. I was able to connect all of my main topics because I organized them in an order that I was happy with.

• Understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audiences.

I chose the same audience to target in my composition of two genres assignment, but I wanted to target them in different ways. I wanted to reach my audience through technology with the Instagram post because a lot of people are on Instagram and social media in general. Especially during COVID, when there were informational posts that were reshared, information spread quickly. I wanted to be able to reach my audience in person while also allowing them to get more information quickly by including a QR code that leads to an informative Instagram post on my flyers.
